Gianluca Cerilli received the BSc degree in Computer Engineering from Roma Tre University in 2016 and the MSc degree in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics from Sapienza University of Rome, in 2019.
He studied for five months at University of Bergen, Norway, during his BSc and spent other five months at European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC (ESA), Netherlands, for his MSc thesis. This was focused on the development of a visual servoing system on a robot manipulator for object detection and pick up on Mars.
He worked at Stellantis from 2019 as a member of the Automated Driving Software team in a Scrum based agile development cycle. The main activities were focused on the development and integration of automated driving features and functional software compliant with functional safety principles.
From 2021 he works as Robotics Software Engineer at IIT, in the Dynamic Legged Systems (DLS) research line, and he is mainly involved in space applications, like the ANT project financed by the European Space Agency (ESA) and in collaboration with DFKI (prime). The aim of the Autonomous Non-wheeled all-Terrain (ANT) project concerns the implementation of a framework that could allow a rover system to explore difficult-to-access areas of the Moon and Mars such as high inclinations slopes, cliffs, craters, caves and lava tubes.
The main activities at DLS lab concern: the design, implementation and testing of libraries for the locomotion of different robots; the integration and testing of robot kinematics and dynamics libraries; software support for the laboratory and collaboration with external software teams; planning and analysis of software team development activities.
